Ingredients
Scale
Yeast Mixture
- 1 package yeast (about 2 1/2 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup water (heated to about 110 degrees F)
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 4 Tablespoons butter (melted)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 egg
Dry Ingredients
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 4 1/2 cups flour (all-purpose or bread flour)
- a pinch of salt
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warmed water (about 110 degrees F). Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active and ready.
- Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, honey, sugar, salt, and egg. Mix well. Add the foamy yeast mixture to the wet ingredients. Gradually incorporate the flour, mixing continuously until a soft dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as you knead.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm draft-free area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 20 equal pieces and shape each piece into a smooth ball. Place the dough balls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
- Second Rise: Cover the rolls loosely with a towel and allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes until they puff up noticeably.
- Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake the rolls for 15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with melted butter for a soft, shiny finish. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
Notes
- Use warm water to activate yeast properly; too hot or too cold water can kill or fail to activate the yeast.
- For best results, use bread flour for chewier texture, but all-purpose flour works well too.
- You can brush the rolls with honey butter for extra flavor after baking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep them soft.
- Roll dough balls tightly to encourage a beautiful rounded shape.
