Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with this elegant and creamy Matcha Tiramisu that combines the traditional Italian dessert with the vibrant flavor of Japanese matcha. Layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers are perfectly balanced by a smooth mascarpone and matcha cream, creating a unique and festive treat that’s sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

Matcha Mixture

  • 2 tbsp culinary-grade matcha powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for matcha mixture)
  • 2 tbsp hot water

Cream Mixture

  • 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Other Ingredients

  • 1 cup brewed espresso, cooled
  • 24 ladyfingers

Instructions

  1. Brew Espresso: Brew a strong cup of espresso and allow it to cool completely to room temperature for dipping the ladyfingers later.
  2. Prepare Matcha Mixture: In a bowl, sift the matcha powder to remove lumps. Mix it with 2 tablespoons of sugar and gradually whisk in 2 tablespoons of hot water until you get a smooth, lump-free matcha paste.
  3. Whip Cream and Mascarpone: In a separate bowl, whip the chilled heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese along with the remaining sugar until the mixture is smooth and combined.
  4. Combine Matcha and Cream Mixtures: Incorporate the prepared matcha paste and vanilla extract into the mascarpone cream mixture by folding gently until smooth and evenly colored.
  5. Layer Ladyfingers: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso—making sure not to soak them for too long to avoid sogginess—and arrange a layer in your serving dish.
  6. Assemble First Layer: Spread half of the matcha mascarpone cream evenly over the espresso-soaked ladyfingers.
  7. Repeat Layers: Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers and cover with the remaining matcha mascarpone cream.
  8. Refrigerate: Cover the assembled tiramisu and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow flavors to meld and the dessert to set properly.

Notes

  • Use culinary-grade matcha powder for the best flavor and vibrant green color.
  • Make sure the espresso is cooled before dipping ladyfingers to prevent them from becoming too soggy.
  • Allow the tiramisu to chill for at least 4 hours to develop the flavors and texture.
  • For a different twist, you can dust the top with a little extra matcha powder before serving.
  • This dessert can be prepared a day in advance, making it perfect for celebrations.
