Description

This Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso is a refreshing and energizing coffee beverage that combines rich espresso with a homemade brown sugar cinnamon syrup, vanilla extract, and creamy unsweetened oat milk. Perfect for a warm day or any time you crave a sweet, iced coffee treat, this recipe offers a delightful balance of bold coffee flavor and smooth sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Beverage

  • 1 shot espresso (or strongly brewed coffee)
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar syrup (or to taste)
  • ¾ cup unsweetened oat milk

Instructions

  1. Make the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the water, brown sugar, and cinnamon stick. Heat over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture is slightly thickened, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Discard the cinnamon stick and let the syrup cool.
  2. Prepare the Espresso: Brew one shot of espresso using an espresso machine or prepare a small amount of strong coffee if an espresso machine is unavailable.
  3. Shake the Espresso with Syrup: In a cocktail shaker or a jar with a tight lid, combine the hot espresso and 2 teaspoons of the cooled brown sugar syrup. Add ice to fill the shaker halfway. Shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds to chill and create a frothy texture.
  4. Assemble the Drink: Pour the shaken espresso mixture into a glass filled with ice. Add the unsweetened oat milk, and stir gently to combine.
  5. Serve: Optionally, garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a cinnamon stick for extra flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy your iced brown sugar shaken espresso.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less syrup according to your taste.
  • If you don’t have oat milk, any unsweetened plant-based milk or dairy milk can be substituted.
  • For a stronger cinnamon flavor, allow the syrup to steep longer with the cinnamon stick before removing it.
  • To make this recipe dairy-free, ensure your oat milk is unsweetened and free from any dairy additives.
  • Using freshly brewed espresso is recommended for the best flavor, but high-quality strong coffee works well as a substitute.
