Ingredients
Scale
Noodles and Meat
- 8 oz rice noodles or ramen noodles
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Sauces and Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (divided)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Butter and Oils
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Fresh Ingredients and Garnishes
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Lime wedges for serving
- Chopped cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the Noodles: Prepare the rice or ramen noodles according to the package directions. Once cooked, drain them thoroughly and set aside to use later.
- Marinate the Steak: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced flank steak with cornstarch, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and a pinch of salt and black pepper to season and tenderize the meat.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 tablespoon soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and optional chili flakes until well combined for a rich, flavorful sauce.
- Sear the Steak: Heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the steak slices in a single layer and sear each side for 2–3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the cooked steak from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté the Garlic: Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Toss Noodles with Sauce: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet along with the prepared sauce mixture. Toss everything thoroughly to coat the noodles evenly in the savory sauce.
- Combine Steak and Noodles: Return the seared steak to the pan and toss to combine with the noodles and sauce, ensuring the flavors meld together well.
- Finish and Garnish: Drizzle sesame oil over the dish and sprinkle with sliced green onions. Serve immediately, garnished with lime wedges and chopped cilantro for added freshness and a bright citrus finish.
Notes
- You can swap the beef for chicken or tofu to suit your preference or dietary needs.
- Adjust the chili flakes to control the level of spiciness, or omit them altogether for a milder dish.
- For extra richness, consider adding a splash of cream or an additional pat of butter at the end of cooking.
