Description

This Garlic Butter Steak Bites and Mash recipe offers a delicious and comforting meal featuring perfectly seared sirloin steak bites coated in a rich garlic butter sauce, served alongside creamy mashed potatoes. Ideal for a hearty weeknight dinner or special occasion, this dish blends simple ingredients with classic techniques to deliver bold flavors and satisfying textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak Bites

  • 1 pound sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

  • 1 1/2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mashed potatoes: Place the peeled and cubed potatoes into a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Mash the potatoes: Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Add 2 tablespoons of butter, milk, and sour cream. Mash until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Season with salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste. Cover the pot and set aside to keep warm.
  3. Heat butter and oil for steak: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter with 2 tablespoons of olive oil until the butter is fully melted and the oil is hot.
  4. Sear the steak bites: Add the sirloin steak pieces in a single layer to the skillet. Season with salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Allow the steak bites to cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes to develop a golden crust, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes for medium-rare doneness, or longer as preferred.
  5. Add garlic: Reduce the heat to low and add the minced garlic to the skillet. Stir continuously to prevent burning and cook the garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  6. Finish with butter: Remove the skillet from heat and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Swirl the pan to melt the butter and coat the steak bites evenly with the garlic butter sauce.
  7. Serve: Optionally sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the steak bites. Serve immediately alongside the creamy mashed potatoes for a comforting and flavorful meal.

Notes

  • For a richer mash, use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Adjust the garlic amount to your taste for a milder or more intense garlic flavor.
  • Use a cast iron skillet for best searing results.
  • Let steak rest a few minutes after cooking for juicier bites.
  • The recipe can be adapted with other cuts of steak such as ribeye or strip steak.
