Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Batter
- 1/2 cup unsalted vegan butter (or regular butter if not vegan)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 flax eggs (2 tablespoons ground flaxseed mixed with 5 tablespoons water)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Decoration
- White icing or melted white chocolate (for football laces)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the brownies after baking.
- Melt butter and chocolate: In a saucepan over low heat, gently melt the vegan butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips together, stirring frequently until completely smooth and combined.
- Mix sugars and wet ingredients: Remove the saucepan from heat. Whisk in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flax eggs, and vanilla extract until the mixture is thoroughly combined and smooth.
- Add dry ingredients: Sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, and salt. Fold these dry ingredients into the wet mixture carefully until a thick, uniform batter forms, avoiding overmixing to keep the brownies fudgy.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–28 minutes, or until the center is just set but still fudgy for the perfect texture.
- Cool: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan, which helps them firm up for easier cutting.
- Cut and decorate: Once cooled, use a football-shaped cookie cutter to cut out brownie shapes. Decorate the tops with white icing or melted white chocolate to create football laces, adding a charming game day touch.
Notes
- For a traditional version, substitute regular eggs and butter instead of flax eggs and vegan butter.
- Chilling the brownies before cutting helps them hold their shape better and makes the cutting process easier.
- Leftover brownie scraps are delicious crumbled over ice cream or used as a dessert topping.
