Description

The Flying Dutchman Burger is a classic double beef patty burger layered with melted cheese and optionally served with toasted buns and your favorite toppings. This straightforward recipe focuses on high-quality beef and gooey cheese, with optional condiments and sides to customize your burger experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Patties

  • 2 large beef patties (preferably 80% lean ground beef)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Cheese

  • 2 slices of American cheese, cheddar cheese, or your favorite cheese

Buns and Toppings (Optional)

  • 2 hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting the buns)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
  • Pickles or onions for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: Season both sides of your beef patties with salt and pepper. Shape them by hand or use a burger press. Make them slightly larger to compensate for shrinkage during cooking.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the hot surface and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, adjusting based on your preferred level of doneness.
  3. Melt the Cheese: When the patties are almost cooked, place a slice of cheese onto each patty. Cover the pan with a lid for 1-2 minutes to allow the cheese to melt thoroughly.
  4. Toast the Buns (Optional): If using buns, butter the inside of each and place them face-down on the skillet for 1-2 minutes until golden and crispy.
  5. Assemble the Burger: Put the first cheesy patty on the bottom bun, then stack the second cheesy patty on top, and cover with the top bun if using.
  6. Add Optional Toppings: Spread mayonnaise or ketchup inside the buns as desired. Add pickles, onions, or your preferred toppings before closing the burger.
  7. Serve: Slice the burger in half, and enjoy it with fries or a side salad.

Notes

  • You can skip the buns to enjoy the burger keto-style or as a protein-rich meal.
  • For best flavor, use freshly ground beef with 80% lean content for juicier patties.
  • Adjust cooking times slightly to ensure your desired level of doneness, especially if patties are thicker.
  • Feel free to add additional toppings like lettuce, tomato, or bacon according to preference.
