- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Toppings & Garnish
- 1 sheet nori, cut into strips
- 1 tablespoon furikake seasoning
- Sliced green onions for garnish
- Optional: tobiko or avocado slices for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking the sushi bake evenly.
- Season the sushi rice: In a bowl, combine the warm cooked sushi rice with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Stir thoroughly until the rice is well coated and flavorful.
- Assemble rice layer: Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish and evenly spread the seasoned sushi rice to form the base layer of the bake.
- Prepare crab mixture: In another bowl, mix the shredded imitation crab with mayonnaise, sriracha, softened cream cheese, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Layer crab mixture: Spread the creamy crab mixture evenly over the rice layer to create an even topping.
- Add seasoning: Sprinkle furikake seasoning generously over the crab mixture to infuse savory, umami flavors.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the bake is heated through and slightly golden on top.
- Rest and garnish: Remove the sushi bake from the oven and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Garnish with sliced green onions and, if desired, add tobiko or avocado slices on top.
- Serve: Serve warm with nori strips for scooping and enjoy your deconstructed sushi casserole!
Notes
- Substitute imitation crab with canned tuna, cooked shrimp, or fresh real crab for different flavor variations.
- Adjust sriracha quantity to make the dish spicier or milder according to your taste.
- This dish is a fun and easy way to enjoy sushi flavors without rolling, making it ideal for parties or weeknight dinners.
