Description

These Crispy Rice Paper Dumplings are a delightful fusion snack featuring a flavorful vegetable and rice filling wrapped in delicate rice paper and fried to golden perfection. Easy to prepare and irresistibly crunchy, they make a perfect appetizer or party finger food.

Ingredients

Scale

Dumpling Wrappers

  • 1 cup rice paper sheets

Filling

  • 1/2 cup cooked rice
  • 1/4 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

For Frying

  • 1 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Soften Rice Paper: Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Dip one rice paper sheet into the water for about 5 seconds until it becomes soft and pliable.
  2. Prepare Wrapping Surface: Place the softened rice paper sheet flat on a clean, dry surface to prepare for filling.
  3. Mix Filling: In a small bowl, combine cooked rice, shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, chopped cilantro, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well to blend all flavors.
  4. Add Filling: Spoon a small amount of the filling mixture onto the center of the rice paper sheet.
  5. Fold Dumpling: Fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling, then fold the bottom up, and tightly roll from the bottom to form a neat dumpling.
  6. Repeat: Repeat the wrapping process with remaining rice paper sheets and filling mixture to make all 12 dumplings.
  7. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  8. Fry Dumplings: Carefully add dumplings to the hot oil without overcrowding. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Drain Excess Oil: Remove dumplings with tongs and place on paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  10. Serve: Serve the crispy dumplings hot with your favorite dipping sauce for an irresistible treat.

Notes

  • Ensure rice paper is not soaked too long or it will tear.
  • Use a spatula or tongs carefully to avoid breaking the delicate dumplings while frying.
  • Maintain medium-high heat for crispy texture without burning.
  • Feel free to customize the filling with other vegetables or proteins as desired.
  • Serve immediately for the best crispiness.
