Description

This rich and smooth homemade chocolate syrup is perfect for drizzling over desserts, mixing into milk or coffee, or adding a chocolatey touch to your favorite recipes. Made with simple ingredients like sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract, this quick and easy syrup can be prepared in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Syrup Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (I used Hershey’s)
  • â…› tsp salt
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine dry ingredients and water: In a medium saucepan, mix together the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir in the water thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
  2. Cook the syrup: Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and cook, stirring frequently until the mixture comes to a boil. Then reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning and ensure a smooth texture.
  3. Add vanilla extract: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract to add a deep, aromatic flavor to the syrup.
  4. Cool and store: Allow the chocolate syrup to cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, pour it into a clean glass jar or bottle for storage.

Notes

  • You can adjust the thickness of the syrup by simmering it longer for a thicker consistency or less time for a thinner syrup.
  • Store the syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  • Shake or stir well before using, as separation may occur during storage.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.
