Ingredients
Scale
Pastry Dough
- 1 package store-bought pastry dough
Filling
- 2 cups shredded cheese (Cheddar or any favorite cheese)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Topping
- 1 jar hot pepper jelly (can substitute with any jam)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pastry Dough: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the store-bought pastry dough on a lightly floured surface. Use your hands or a small cookie scoop to portion the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a small ball.
- Create Thumbprints: Place the dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to gently press an indentation into the center of each dough ball, forming a thumbprint to hold the filling.
- Mix Filling: In a small bowl, combine the shredded cheese, minced garlic (or garlic powder), salt, and pepper. Mix well to blend the flavors evenly.
- Fill the Appetizers: Spoon the cheese mixture into each thumbprint indentation, filling it generously but without overstuffing to avoid spilling during baking.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Add Jelly Topping: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and while the appetizers are still warm, spoon a small dollop of hot pepper jelly on top of the melted cheese in each thumbprint.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the appetizers to cool slightly so the jelly sets a bit before transferring to a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature for best flavor and texture.
