Description

These Cheesy Sloppy Joes are a delicious twist on the classic comfort food. Savory ground beef cooked with onions, peppers, and a blend of tangy sauces, topped with melted cheddar cheese, and served on toasted buns. A family-friendly favorite that’s quick and easy to make!

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

Additional:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

Instructions

  1. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add Vegetables: Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in Sauces: Mix in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, and mustard. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until thickened.
  4. Add Cheese: Reduce heat, then stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and well combined.
  5. Assemble: Spoon the cheesy sloppy joe mixture onto toasted hamburger buns. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a dash of hot sauce or using pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar.
  • This mixture can also be served over baked potatoes or rice for a variation.
