Scale
Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons smoky barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
Main Ingredients
- 4 extra large breaded chicken fingers/strips/tenders (or enough to fill a standard hot dog bun)
- 4 thick-cut bacon slices, cooked and crisp
- 4 brioche hot dog buns
Fresh Toppings
- Romaine or iceberg lettuce, shredded
- Roma tomatoes, thinly sliced
- Red onion, thinly sliced
- Dill pickles, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, smoky barbecue sauce, honey, yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice. Whisk together until smooth and well blended.
- Cook the Bacon: Cook the thick-cut bacon slices in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 6-8 minutes. Drain on paper towels to remove excess grease.
- Heat Chicken Tenders: Warm the breaded chicken tenders according to package instructions, either by baking in the oven at 400°F (204°C) for 10 minutes or heating in an air fryer for about 8-10 minutes until crispy and heated through.
- Toast Buns: Slice the brioche hot dog buns lengthwise and toast lightly in a skillet or oven until golden and slightly crisp.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Spread the prepared honey barbecue mayo on both sides of each toasted bun. Layer shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion, dill pickles, a breaded chicken tender, and a crisp bacon slice onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with the other half and gently press to hold together.
- Serve: Serve the Bird Dog Sandwiches immediately while warm, accompanied by your favorite side such as fries or a fresh salad.
Notes
- You can substitute regular chicken tenders if extra large ones are unavailable.
- Adjust honey and barbecue sauce amounts to achieve your preferred sweetness and smokiness in the sauce.
- For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce to the mayo mixture.
- To keep sandwiches from getting soggy, add pickles and onions just before serving.
- Leftover sauce can be refrigerated for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
