Ingredients
Scale
Fruits
- 1 green apple
- Mandarin oranges or clementines (for beak and feet)
Other Ingredients
- 1 marshmallow
- Chocolate chips (for eyes)
- 1 pretzel rod (for perch)
Instructions
- Prepare the apple body and wings: Cut a green apple in half. From one half, slice away a portion to create wings. Using a kitchen knife, cut a small circle from the other half to form the owl’s head. Use leftover apple pieces to shape the ears and place them on top of the head piece.
- Create the eyes: Slice a marshmallow in half horizontally to form two eye bases. Place chocolate chips on the cut flat side of each halved marshmallow to serve as pupils, and position these onto the owl’s head.
- Form the beak and feet: Use segments of mandarin oranges or clementines to fashion a small beak and the owl’s feet. Place the feet beneath the body, and arrange a pretzel rod underneath the feet to act as the owl’s perch.
Notes
- This is a no-cook recipe, so it’s quick and great for kids to assemble.
- For variation, use different colored apples or substitute chocolate chips with raisins for pupils.
- Make sure to use fresh fruits to keep the snack crisp and appealing.
- To prevent the apple from browning, you can dip the cut pieces in lemon juice before assembling.
